Dairy-Free & Vegan Eggnog Smoothie

Winter is here! (I know what you're thinking. You're thinking "Winter is most certainly not here. Winter begins December 21st, and this my dear, is just Fall). 

But Mother Nature is on my side, you see, dumping a happy winter storm right outside my door. It's been snowing for two days now (and the day before that it was quite warm and everyone was wearing t-shirts outside, including me, but shhhh! Winter is here!). While I am not into being cold (really not into being cold) I love when the weather changes, no matter the change. And this storm was perfect: big flakes, fluffy snow, and biggest-down-coat-in-your-closet temperatures. 

There are three things to do when you look out the window and see snow:

#1: Make hot cocoa (check!)

#2: Homemade Peppermint Mocha (check! drinking it right now!)

#3: Eggnog (check! even dairy-free!)

...Ok, so I really developed the recipe for this Dairy-Free Eggnog Smoothie weeks (months?) ago. But it was so good, that I'm revisiting the idea now because it actually seems reasonable to post about now. This week's snow clearly means it's officially Eggnog time. 

Dairy-Free & Vegan Eggnog Smoothie

Serves: 1   |    Active Time: 10 minutes


  • 1 ripe banana (Use a frozen banana for a cold smoothie OR use a fresh banana and run the blender on the soup setting (if you have that) for a warm frothy beverage)
  • 1 and 1/2 cup milk of choice (organic dairy milk, coconut milk, or almond)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg, plus more for garnish
  • Pinch of ground cinnamon
  • Optional: pinch of allspice or ground cloves

  • Directions:

    1. Place the banana, vanilla, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, and if using, cloves/allspice in a blender. Puree until smooth and frothy. 
    2. Pour into glasses for serving, and top with more nutmeg.
